Neurofeedback
- Neurofeedback Therapy
- Non-Invasive Brain Training
- Personalised Support Plan
Neurofeedback, also known as EEG biofeedback, is a non-invasive form of brain training. It uses small sensors placed gently on the scalp to measure brainwave activity. The sensors record information only; they do not send electrical stimulation into the brain.
During a neurofeedback session, the individual receives real-time feedback through visual or sound-based cues, such as a game, animation, video, or music. This feedback supports the brain’s natural learning processes and may help individuals develop improved awareness and self-regulation.
Neurofeedback may be used to support areas such as attention, relaxation, stress responses, emotional regulation, sleep patterns, and mental energy. It is offered as part of a wider personalised support plan and does not replace appropriate psychological, medical, educational, or specialist care where this is needed.
What Happens in a Neurofeedback Session?
A typical neurofeedback session may include:
- A discussion about current goals, wellbeing, sleep, stress, and progress
- Gentle placement of EEG sensors on the scalp
- Recording of brainwave activity
- A personalised feedback activity using visual or sound-based cues
- Ongoing observation of comfort, attention, and response to training
- Review of progress and practical strategies between sessions
Sessions are tailored to the individual and adjusted according to their needs and response.
A Gentle and Non-Invasive Approach
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive and medication-free approach. EEG sensors measure the brain’s naturally occurring electrical activity; they do not deliver electrical current into the brain.
At Neuro-SEED, neurofeedback is provided thoughtfully, with attention to comfort, informed consent, individual needs, and progress monitoring. It is delivered within a wider therapeutic framework that considers emotional wellbeing, relationships, stress, sleep, lifestyle, and psychological needs.
Where there are complex mental-health, neurological, medical, safeguarding, or medication concerns, we encourage appropriate collaboration with GPs, psychologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians, schools, and other relevant professionals.
Neurofeedback and Exam Performance
Exam success is not only about knowledge. It is also influenced by the ability to focus, remain calm, manage pressure, and access learned information.
Neurofeedback may support students who experience exam stress by helping them develop improved self-regulation and awareness of their stress responses.
It may support:
- Reduced overthinking and anxiety
- Improved concentration and mental clarity
- Better sleep before exams
- Greater confidence under pressure
- More effective focus during study and examination periods
Neurofeedback and Sleep Support
Sleep difficulties can be affected by stress, anxiety, overthinking, and difficulty settling into a relaxed state.
As part of a wider support plan, neurofeedback may help individuals develop improved awareness of their arousal levels and relaxation patterns.
Support may focus on:
- Reducing feelings of mental overactivity
- Supporting relaxation and wind-down routines
- Improving sleep habits and consistency
- Supporting emotional regulation and daytime functioning
Persistent or severe sleep difficulties should also be discussed with an appropriate healthcare professional.
Neurofeedback for Attention
Neurofeedback may be used to support individuals who experience distractibility, restlessness, difficulty sustaining attention, or mental fatigue.
Support may focus on:
- Improving focus and sustained attention
- Reducing distractibility
- Supporting self-regulation and activity levels
- Developing greater mental clarity
- Building confidence in learning and daily tasks
Attention is not simply about effort. It is influenced by many factors, including sleep, stress, emotional wellbeing, learning needs, and neurodevelopmental differences.
Neurofeedback and Low Mood
Neurofeedback may be used as an additional supportive approach for individuals experiencing low mood, reduced motivation, mental fatigue, or emotional imbalance.
It may support:
- Emotional regulation
- Relaxation and stress management
- Improved sleep habits
- Focus and mental clarity
- Greater awareness of wellbeing patterns
Neurofeedback is not a replacement for appropriate psychological, psychiatric, or medical assessment where this is required.
Neurofeedback for Anxiety
Where appropriate, neurofeedback may form part of a wider support plan for anxiety and stress-related difficulties.
It may support individuals to:
- Recognise stress responses
- Develop relaxation skills
- Improve emotional regulation
- Support focus and sleep habits
- Feel more aware of patterns linked to overwhelm
Neurofeedback and OCD Support
For individuals experiencing obsessive-compulsive symptoms, neurofeedback may be used only as an additional supportive approach alongside appropriate psychological treatment.
It may help support relaxation, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing. It does not replace evidence-based OCD treatment or specialist assessment.
When Additional Support Is Needed
For complex or severe mental-health concerns, including depression, OCD, trauma, addiction, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, neurological conditions, or significant safeguarding concerns, appropriate specialist support is essential.
Where needed, Neuro-SEED encourages collaboration with GPs, psychologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians, schools, addiction specialists, and other relevant professionals.
Breathwork and Meditation
Breathwork and meditation can support relaxation, body awareness, and emotional regulation. These practices may help individuals feel calmer, more grounded, and better able to manage stressful or overwhelming moments.
Support may include:
- Simple breathing techniques
- Relaxation exercises
- Mindfulness and grounding practices
- Body-awareness techniques
- Strategies for managing stress and emotional overwhelm
- Sleep and wind-down routines
These approaches are adapted carefully to the individual’s age, needs, and level of comfort.
Emotional Regulation Support
Emotional regulation is the ability to recognise, understand, and manage feelings in a healthy and constructive way.
Children, young people, and adults may experience intense emotions, anxiety, frustration, anger, shutdown, overwhelm, or difficulty recovering after stressful situations.
Our support may help individuals to:
- Recognise emotional triggers
- Understand body and nervous-system responses
- Develop calming and grounding strategies
- Improve impulse control
- Build confidence in managing difficult emotions
- Communicate needs more effectively
- Strengthen resilience in everyday life
Parent and Family Guidance
Parents and carers play an important role in a child’s emotional development and wellbeing. We offer guidance to help families better understand behaviour, emotional needs, attention difficulties, sensory differences, anxiety, and nervous-system regulation.
Support may include:
- Understanding a child’s emotional and behavioural patterns
- Practical strategies for home routines
- Supporting emotional regulation
- Strengthening parent-child communication
- Creating calmer responses during challenging moments
- Supporting consistency between home, school, and therapy
Our aim is to help families feel more confident, connected, and supported.
Practical Support for Daily Life
Therapy should lead to meaningful change in everyday life. Alongside therapeutic sessions, we may offer practical strategies to support functioning at home, school, university, work, and in relationships.
This may include support with:
- Daily routines and organisation
- Study skills and exam preparation
- Sleep habits
- Stress management
- Time management
- Attention and focus strategies
- Communication skills
- Healthy boundaries
- Confidence-building goals
